Copper Fractioning Column Assembly – 2″ Vapor Management
The flexible design of this column offers multiple modes of operation, often employed in combination within one run. Vapor Management style fractioning stills are considered to be the most forgiving and simplest for novice distillers to operate.
Reflux with packing enhances product separation and controls any excess heat. The column head will hold up to 10″ of mesh packing which is approx. equivalent to +3 plates.
This column can produce up to 90% ABV without a column extension.
95% pure ethanol is achievable with the with the addition of a packed 24″ column extension. This is a critical process for any separation where a true “neutral” product is required.
This column can operate as a pure pot still for stripping and for basic distillation runs.
Column/Head: The still head is a 2″ copper pipe with a stainless steel ferrule at the base. A thermometer port, 1/2″ thread, is located level with the vapor path takeout point. Thermometer is included. There is 10″ of column space below the vapor takeout point for the packing needed to fraction.
Vapor Path: The vapor path is 3/4″. The valve is a 3/4″ stainless steel gate valve. The takeout point is a 3/4″ copper union. The mate to the union is provided if this head is purchased separately/without an attachment.
Reflux: At the top of the still head is a slip in copper coil reflux condenser and cap with 1/4″ needle valve for controlling reflux cooling flow. This condenser is more than capable of knocking down anything under 5600 watts of water vapor.
